Traveling Images, an Image Amidst the Heart الصور المتنقلة صورة بوسط القلب

This video work is a meditation on images and family photographs found under the rubble and their digital transmission, transmitted from Deir ez-Zor across multiple displacements. The video traces ordinary gestures through which fragmented images remerges, photographing, scanning, uploading, searching, cutting, pasting, renaming, compressing, downloading and forwarding.

Through these acts, the work reflects on how intimate personal and collective memories are reassembled into new constellations of narrative. What emerges is at once fragile and enduring acts of re-membering and mourning. The intimacy of personal albums appears here as fugitive from state surveillance, erasure and border violence. The work attends to how memory is (re)shaped, contested and silenced, while foregrounding gestures of enduring relation.
