Traveling Images, an Image Amidst the Heart الصور المتنقلة صورة بوسط القلب
This video work is a meditation on family photographs and their digital transmission. It began with the preservation of images salvaged from beneath the rubble of family homes in Deir ez-Zor and sent across distances to displaced relatives. The video traces the ordinary gestures through which these fragments endure: photographing, scanning, uploading, searching, cutting, pasting, renaming, compressing, downloading, and forwarding.
Through these acts, the work reflects on how intimate memories are reassembled into new constellations of narrative. What emerges is at once fragile and enduring, acts of re-membering and mourning that resist erasure. The intimacy of personal albums is rendered as fugitives of state surveillance and border violences. The work attends to how memory is (re)shaped, contested, and silenced, while foregrounding gestures of enduring relation.
